Kirkby powerlifter Phil Beniston successfully defended his World titles in Powerlifting and Bench Press in Mexico.
The WPF competition was held over four days in Torreon and Phil won the WPF World Powerlifting title with a new world record squat of 290kg (640lb), a 200gk (440lb) bench press and a 252.5kg (556lb) deadlift to give him a 742.5kg total.

The following day, after failing to make the 90kg weight class (weighing 90.35kg), he won the 100kg class World Bench Press title with a press of 202.5kg.

Along the way he helped Great Britain win the team title, Mexico came second and the USA third.

After the Championships Phil was invited to compete at the AAU World Bench Press Championships being held the following week in The Plaza Hotel, Las Vegas, with 250 competitors from 12 countries competing.

And Phil won his class, beating the American record in the process.

Phil is sponsored by Level 1 Security and TC Autos of Kirkby.
